Fall Coffee Break Women’s Bible Studies
Begins September 9
Time: 9:00-11:30
“BOOKENDS OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE” • Semester Study
Homework: None
Co-Leaders: Betsy Newell and Teri Farone
Author: Jerry Bridges and Bob Bevington | Room: Courtside Lounge
What are the chief cornerstones of the Christian life? The righteousness of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit! Using a bookends motif, Bridges and Bevington show how justification and sanctification can help you overcome guilt and self-righteousness, develop the motivation to grow, be assured of God’s love, and bring about lasting change in your life.
“BRINGING UP BOYS” • Semester Study
Homework: 1 hour
Co-leaders: Charlotte Bubar and Tara Sanchez
Author: Dr. James Dobson | Room: Cry Room
Dr. James Dobson, a psychologist and family counselor, takes a conservative approach to the “special challenge of raising boys.” Celebrating the natural differences between boys and girls, Dobson outlines biological differences, particular issues in disciplining boys, and the different roles of mothers and fathers. Dr. Dobson sees the “future of Western civilization” dependent on how we handle the “crisis” of raising the next generation of men.
“DAILY BREAD" • Semester Study
Homework: 1 hour
Co-Leaders: Charlotte Singleton and Sharon Andress
Author: Publisher of Daily Bread | Room: E11
If you have wanted to develop a daily devotion with the Lord, the Daily Bread Class is for you. Each day the Daily Bread pairs a contemporary life thought with a biblical principle. You will be asked to meditate on the Scripture to see what the Lord is saying to you about Himself, your life, and how you are living it. The thoughts you write down will be the basis of class discussions. Because the Daily Bread deals with so many topics, discussions are thought provoking, covering many Bible principles.
“GENESIS: GOD’S CREATIVE CALL” • Year Long Study
Homework: 1 hour
Co-Leaders: Bonnie Keller and Sharon McBride
Author: Charles and Anne Hummel, InterVarsity Press | Room: Chapel
Do you struggle to know and to follow God’s call for you in the world? Genesis tells us that even the giants of faith-Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph struggled to obey their Creator. Genesis also reveals the amazing truth that the God who called a world and nation into being also calls each of us to serve him.
“HERE & NOW…THERE & THEN, a lecture series on Revelation” • Semester Study
Homework: 1 1/2 hours
Co-Leaders: Penny Newell and Sherri Masters
Author: Beth Moore | Room: E9/10
“Here and Now...There and Then” is a lecture series on the book of Revelation. Beth Moore presents many points of view, allowing women to decide for themselves when the interpretation varies among scholars. She teaches that God is as specific about what He does reveal as He is about what He does not reveal.
“JAMES” • Semester Study
Homework: 5 hours
Leaders: Deborah Oliver
Author: Kay Arthur, Precept Ministries | Room: S5/6
The theme of James is a faith that’s real! What is true faith? How should you live the Christian life? Each verse of this practical study is alive with instructions, admonition, and encouragement. Learn God’s principles for dealing with trials, temptations, the tongue, and the pull of the world.
“PRAYER CIRCLE” • Semester Study
Homework: none
Co-Leaders: Jill Edwards and Julie Nilson
Room: Foyer of the Sanctuary
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer Room Hours: Women are invited to come for prayer beginning September 16, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. and again from 9:30-10:00 a.m. If you have any need for prayer or want to pray with others, please feel free to join us.
“READ THE NEW TESTAMENT” • Semester Study
Homework: 1 hour
Co-Leaders: Liz Stepanian and Jackie McCune
Book: New International Version Bible | Room: E12
See the big picture of the New Testament story. Every week this group will read out loud to each other the longer books of the New Testament. We have found the reading and reflection to be uplifting and eye opening both for women who are new to Bible study and for those who have studied for years. Optional homework includes reading the shorter books of the New Testament and memorizing suggested verses.
“THE GOSPEL OF LUKE” • Semester Study
Homework: 2 hours
Co-Leaders: Dorothy Zehm and Bobbie Shaparenko
Author: John MacArthur Study Guide | Room: Reception Room
Luke was the only gospel writer who was not Jewish. He tells the story of Jesus from a perspective unlike any other. Luke was a physician, and writes with the compassion and warmth of a family doctor, as he carefully documents the perfect humanity of the Son of Man, Jesus Christ. He presents Jesus as a man of great compassion and intense emotions. He alone records how Jesus looks out over the holy city of Jerusalem and wept over its coming destruction.
